Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women in the United States. Breast cancer is also a major cause of death to women, including the second most common cause of death from cancer.

October has been recognized as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the United States for more than three decades. Lamar Law Office is participating in Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the objective of helping to increase awareness in the Atlanta, GA area and help raise funds to donate to breast cancer research.

There are many resources available to those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Here are a few links to help victims of breast cancer and family members:

  • Eric R. Beverly Family Foundation offers grants to lower-income breast cancer patients at the Grady Cancer Center for Excellence. These grants cover living expenses such as groceries, rent, and utilities. Call (770) 614 – 1779 or visit www.beverlyfamilyfoundation.org to learn more.
  • Atlanta Cancer Care Foundation is dedicated to assisting underserved communities to cover the costs of medical bills and living expenses for those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Call (404) 213 – 1667 or visit www.atlantacancercarefoundation.org to apply.
  • Turning Point Breast Cancer Rehabilitation offers a wholistic approach to physical and mental health therapy for victims of breast cancer. This group accepts insurance but also has a financial assistance fund for their services. Call (770) 360 – 9271 or visit www.myturningpoint.org to apply.
  • The Pink Fund provides a three month grant to cover living expenses to low-income breast cancer patients. Call (877) 234 – 7465 to learn more, or apply online at www.pinkfund.org.
  • Cancer Support Community Atlanta provides FREE counseling, support group, and classes to breast cancer patients of Northside Hospital. Complete an application at www.cscatlanta.org or call (404) 843 – 1880 to learn more.

How can I help support breast cancer research and promote awareness this month?

Run an independent Facebook fundraising campaign – ask your friends to donate to the cause on your birthday or other special event.

Participate in one of the many breast cancer walks around the city this month – ask your friends and family to donate to your distance goal. Here are a few to consider:

Join the Relay For Life movement – sign up to lead, recruit, raise money, and celebrate in person or virtually for any of the various Relay For Life groups in the Atlanta area.

Find volunteer opportunities give your time to raise awareness, provide transportation to patients, organize for policies, provide one-on-one support to women with breast cancer, and more.
